LICHENS
Arid lands, poor in nutrients, favor the presence of numerous species of lichens, pioneer colonizers of soils that are inhospitable to plants.
After all, as they say, "union makes strength" and the well-known characteristic of lichens as a symbiotic association between an autotrophic organism (a fungus), a heterotrophic one (an alga or a cyanobacterium) and other unicellular organisms that are still little studied, allows them to tolerate life conditions that are prohibitive for almost all other living beings.
The conservation and enhancement of lichens present in the intervention sites could inspire new forms of tourism, provided it is carried out with full respect for the habitats (remaining on designated trails).
Below you can find some images of terrestrial lichens and their dedicated sheets, downloadable in PDF on the website page at this link.
