🤩 Lichen monitoring in the Lombardy Ticino Valley Park’s grasslands and heathlands yielded positive results: Cladonia portentosa, a rare ground lichen protected under the Habitats Directive, was discovered at Ansa di Castelnovate grasslands.
As part of our research, in the fall of 2023, we planted material gathered from a nearby site in Piedmontese Ticino Valley Park to build Habitat 2330 (“Inland dunes with open Corynephorus and Agrostis grasslands”).
The material clearly contained propagules of this species, which, based on observations, appears to have established itself very well after finding a favorable environment following the interventions that significantly improved the quality of the grasslands at the site, and is now present with numerous well-developed individuals.
